THE
OFFER
You have
arrived at the point where you need to gather all the
information you have about the schools you are interested
in and lay it all out. Consider all the pros and
cons. Remember that you are choosing a school and
not a coach. At any time the end of your lacrosse
career is but one injury away…pick a college where
you can get the best education in the major you want. Coaches
and assistant coaches also change schools all the time. Prioritize
your order. Know
what your #1 school is and so forth.
“The
offer” may consist of a National Letter of Intent
or pressure for an early decision. Coaches want
to know early who wants to play for them and they will
expect you to make up your mind. Communicate with
the coaches that this will be a “family decision” so
you don’t end up alone in a coaches office by yourself
trying to make a decision. Of
course if you have been accepted by your number 1 choice let the coaches know
as soon as possible.
For more
information on the National Letter of Intent go to: www.national-letter.org.
More
questions to consider:
- How long does my scholarship last?
- What happens to my financial aid if I am injured?
- Exactly how much will the athletic
scholarship be? What will and will not be covered?
- Under what circumstances might my athletic scholarship be reduced/cancelled?
Once you have
made up your mind have no regrets. It is important to let the other coaches know that you have chosen another school. Remember
that all coaches have much more experience at this than
you do and they understand your situation. Be honest
and thank them for their interest.
