Starz Leadership Program (SLP) -- Be A Mentor! Applications Being Accepted Now!
Starz Leadership Program's (SLP) mission is to support inner city lacrosse players in their academic and athletic goals by partnering them with supportive adults in the lacrosse community. This partnership aims to provide selected players with a healthy mentoring relationship which supports them during their middle school and high school years both on and off the field.
The Starz Foundation is excited about entering the new 2010 year with a new Starz Leadership Program (SLP) model that will support eight new mentees. Originally started in 2007, the SLP will be taking on a more structured form that will focus on a small group of mentors and mentees with the goal of adding additional mentees next year. Each player will be part of our City Starz program and the selection process will be in collaboration with LAX in LA (www.laxinla.com).

Mentorship Requirements
1. TB and Fingerprints -It is important to make sure you have completed a TB test and have been fingerprinted. If you are a current coach and have completed this through your school district, this step is not necessary.
2. Raise $200 to support SLP -The money raised will go directly to support the SLP program. SLP is about your relationship with the mentee not about gift giving. Therefore the $200 fundraised will support 2 foundation events with your mentee and special occasion spending.
3. Fill 1 page written application -Important to gather basic information about you.
4. Interview - We want to know more about you and why you are interested in being a mentor. Meeting face to face allows us to match you up with a mentee that fits your personality and interest. The matching process is very important.
1 Year commitment
1 One Annual Training - You are required to attend a 2 hour training discussing the mentorship relationship and guidelines of SLP. The training is where you will be given your mentee's name/contact information.
2. Three Follow up Meetings - Every 4 months all the mentors will meet and provide updates on our mentees. This is an opportunity to discuss concerns, strengths and barriers of your mentorship relationship and how SLP can be supportive.
3. 2 Foundation Events - Twice a year Starz Foundation will host a
Mentor/Mentee event. Once at the end of Spring (BBQ) and one at the end of Fall. This will be a great opportunity to interact with other mentors and mentees.
4. 12 monthly contacts/visits - Each mentor will be responsible for making contact at least once a month, ideally face to face. A list of activity ideas will be given during the training.
