Demonstrations
CLICK HERE TO APPLY FOR A FREE DEMONSTRATION AT YOUR SCHOOL.
Our Goal:
The purpose of these demonstrations is to promote the
sport in the South Bay area. These demos incorporate education
about the sport with exercise. The Starz Lacrosse Foundation has
a staff of people that will help run the gym classes or a
full school assembly. We usually bring posters or stickers
for the kids to go home with. Most of the MS and Elementary
schools in the areas are getting these demos throughout Dec
and Jan.
The Starz Foundation hopes to expand free demonstrations to other southern California locations within 2010
Demo Outline:
1. We bring in Professional and NCAA All-Americans to give a lacrosse talk and demo with student involvement. This includes:
a.
History of the Game- As the Oldest Game in North American,
b. Meaning behind the game to the Native Americans (religion,
celebration, war over land).
c. Rules of the game for boys and girls. Difference between
the men's and women's game.
d. Explain how lacrosse combines skills used in many other sports
such as hockey, soccer, basketball, tennis, etc. It is great
for cross training purposes.
e. Talk about the growth of the game out west and who is playing
it back east (Colleges, Pro League moving out west, etc)
f. Lacrosse went CIF-Varsity in the South Bay
g. High School Students in the South Bay are receiving NCAA
college scholarships and increased college opportunities through
recruitment.
h. We bring sticks and balls and let the kids catch and throw
without contact, of course.
i. Let them know how they can get involved in the game through
the SBYL (South Bay Youth Lacrosse) and other methods.
