Message From The Starz Foundation Director, Alyson Vislocky
Starz
Foundation Director announced January 2009
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Starz Foundation Director. As a recent graduate of UCLA with a Masters in Social Welfare and a concentration in school social work, I am passionate about non-profit efforts addressing issues confronting school age populations. The Starz Foundation is a perfect opportunity to combine my two passions, social work and lacrosse. Having coached lacrosse for over eight years in both Oregon and California, I firmly believe in the use of sports as an intervention to better the lives of children. I have witnessed the positive influence of team sports through years of participating in organized sports, coaching lacrosse, and directing lacrosse camps.
The Starz foundation has impacted the lacrosse community, as well as the local community, for the past 2 years, and I am excited to use my experience as a coach and social worker to further expand the positive influence of the foundation. The lacrosse community never ceases to amaze me in its generosity to both the development of the sport and the development of the local community.
The mission of the Starz Foundation is to support the development of lacrosse in the western United States by reaching under-served communities. In addition to growth, we also support student-athletes in their pursuit of both lacrosse and collegiate goals. We strive to reach our mission by support of inner-city teams with donated equipment, in-school lacrosse demonstrations, sponsored City Starz teams, and camp/clinic scholarships.
I have been inspired by the lacrosse community and look forward to being involved with the Starz Foundation. My goal as the Starz Foundation Director is to begin by assessing the needs of the lacrosse community on the west coast. I value your insight and hope that together as a foundation we are able to make the biggest difference in the most effective way.
